Eighth Meditation on Prayer: In Prayer We Refocus on the Eternal

It is in prayer that we are reminded that we are pilgrims, that this world is not our home (Heb 11:13). Intimacy with our loving Heavenly Father makes us long for our heavenly home; to be with the One we love (1 John 4:19). We long to be with our blessed Redeemer who has gone before us to prepare a place for us (John 14:3).

In prayer we find ourselves further abandoning the temporal and fixing our eyes on the eternal, wanting what is imperishable much more than what this perishing world offers (2 Cor 4:18; 1 John 2:16)). In devoting ourselves to prayer the apostle Paul’s confession “to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Phil 1:21) becomes our own confession.

Waiting on our Lord, an ever-growing longing fills our hearts to see the face of our Savior that we might be like him (1 John 3:2).  We await the moment when we can cast our crowns at his feet to worship him forever (Rev 4:10-11).
