Tenth Meditation on Prayer: In Prayer We Enter the Battle

In prayer we put on the whole armor of God to enter into the battle, seeing the light overcome the darkness (Eph 6:11). As we wrestle in prayer (Eph 6:12) yokes of spiritual darkness are broken and spiritually blind eyes are opened.

Through prayer there is a longing to surrender to the crucified Christ and a willingness to join ourselves to his death and resurrection, finding grace to take up our cross and follow after him (Mat 16:24). In prayer we bow our hearts in surrender, learning how to let him live his life through us (Gal 2:20).

Prayer pushes gospel proclamation to the ends of the earth. Through prayer those sitting in darkness see a great light (Isa 9:2). By praying, the gospel message becomes not simply words but a powerful message that is joined with the manifestation of the Spirit, bringing conviction, leading souls to repentance (1 Thes 1:5).

Prayer empowers truth to see the power of sin broken and those who Satan has oppressed set free (Luke 4:18). Prayer releases the prevenient grace of Calvary to all the nations of the earth so that those yet in darkness might see the salvation of God (Ex 14:13; John 12:32).
