Through Grace Faith Works in Love

In the atmosphere of the grace of the cross, Paul saw that there was an inseparable joining of faith and love. In the presence of abundant grace faith always works in love (Gal 5:6). The apostle had a simple formula: a living faith produces a sincere love as grace is breathed into our souls. Love authenticates the reality of a living, vibrant faith. Where there is no love there is no faith. Where there is the gift of vital faith love flourishes.

         Faith in the “ultimate love”—the compassionate, sacrificial, giving of the Son of God by the Father for a lost and rebellious world–opens the door for that same “ultimate love” to be shed abroad into the hearts of those who believe (Rom 5:5). As our faith grows so shall our love grows. As we walk by faith, we also learn to walk in love. Love is the proof that we have a vital faith in God who is love (1 John 4:8).

         Faith compels us and propels us to love the brethren. By faith, new birth has enabled us to love one another, demonstrating to the world that we know the God of love (1 John 4:7).

         We become faithful servants as our faith empowers us to love. A growth in faith unto spiritual maturity is always a growth in love. The most mature in faith have learned to love the most.

We long to grow in faith so that we can more truly love. We walk by faith and not by sight so that we can faithfully love in thought, word, and deed. It is the acts of love born of living faith lived in the presence of unending grace that will last into eternity.
